When you teach your teachers

The tests are over and to be honest, I don't really care about the score. A fail's a fail, a pass is a pass, whatever will be, will be and there's nothing I can do about it now, once they're written (I'm feeling philosophical). I've got more important matters to attend to.

Tomorrow's the Big Day. The Wikiworkshop at the University of Gdańsk. I'm very, very nervous, and not really because I'll be teaching my teachers (some of whom are going to read this entry, I guess. Hello, nice to see you here). The importance of this workshop is paramount in two ways. One, it might pave an entirely new way for Wikimedia projects into Polish universities by proving that YES, it CAN be used by them in a multitude of ways as a secondary teaching method. And two, if we really want the Interwiki Night Live event at the Wikimania 2010 to be successful (and we do, don't we?), I have to do my best to show that this is a good idea. No epic fails this time.

Still, I believe it's going to work out all right. I can't really be sure, but I think that this could be the very first time editing Wikipedia as such is the core of an academic course. And when I get involved in something completely new and crazy, it usually goes according to plan.

Not much to say, really

OK, so the Champions League final is over. As a Real Madrid fan, I can't really say that the score is of no concern to me and that I'm not dissapointed with Manchester's loss -- because it is of concern and I am disappointed (moreover, I kind of like the Red Devils), but I'm reasonable enough to see that Barcelona deserved the win so I'm not going to cry about it. At least not too much.

On the Wikimania frontline, we had an international meeting today (at the same time as the final, for heavens' sake!) , including -- among others -- Cary Bass of the WMF. What's new? Out of the decisions I mentioned in the previous entry the most important is that we're setting up a non-profit association to manage the organisation of Wikimania 2010. This is a big step forward in the sense that now we know what we're aiming at. Still, there's a long way to go.

And he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made...

Sometimes a man has just got too many things to do. Right now I've got:

a) a test in legal vocabulary on Thursday;
b) a test in general vocabulary on Friday;
c) a presentation on Wikipedia on Saturday.

The last item is very closely related to Wikimania 2010, which will be held in July in Gdańsk. All of us - i.e. the people in charge here in Gdańsk who are to make sure that everything goes according to plan - are now working hard to get the legal and organizational details sorted out. Areas of responsibility need to be divided, the precise legal status of the entity in charge needs to be decided upon. We hope to have the theoretical part of this sorted out before the weekend so that the following week may be devoted to the practical application of whatever we choose to apply.

And by the way, there's a good chance that we'll send someone to Buenos Aires for this year's Wikimania.We hope that this person will be able to get some Argentinean know-how for us.

I'll do my best to keep you updated.

Test entry

This here is just to check if this thingumabob really works. I've really got no time to write antything, not even this. Someone's got to study some vocabulary.
